James Graham, The Marquis of Montrose

The Marquis of Montrose was perhaps the most tragic, brilliant and romantic figure of the British civil wars.He became the King's Champion in all of Scotland and fought a brilliant campaign against extraordinary odds battling the grim Government Covenanter forces.

 With a cadre of three Irish regiments, largely veterans from the Continent and aided by an ever changing  alliance of Highland Clans, Montrose smashed army after army, sometimes in pitched battle, other times in skirmishes and raids.

 He was a very accomplished general, winning so much with so little, time and again.  It was his ability to enthuse and inspire his men and keep them together long enough for a common cause that perhaps was his greatest virtue, though his personal bravery in a madcap campaign must also be applauded.

Warlord Games have captured Montrose reigning in his horse, telescope in hand , once again attempting to out- fox his wily Scot enemies.

Warlord Games - 28mm - Bolt Action - Red Devils Box Set

As WW2 is the topic seemingly this month I also finished my long awaited Red Devils Box Set.

Warlord Games provide 20 metal Miniatures here. Looks a bit confusing at first, but works out fine afterwards.

Warlord Games - 28mm - Bolt Action - 31 German Fallschirmjäger

The world's first paratroopers to be used in large numbers, the German Fallshirmjäger were at the tip of the spear when war broke out in 1939.  They led daring assaults on strategic targets, such as the fortress at Eben Emael, enabling the following panzers to overrun Europe.

As a paratrooper force the Fallschirmjäger's greatest achievement would be the intense fighting they performed as they seized Crete in the face of more numerous British and Commonwealth forces during 1941. This pyrrhic victory meant that they were never again used en masse.

Small units still operated by glider and parachute, famously rescuing Italian leader Mussolini, and raiding behind American lines in the Ardennes. Their finest hour would undoubtly be the bitter fighting as they occupied the monastery at Monte Cassino for months in the face of overwhelming odds, earning themselves the nickname 'Green Devils'. The German Paratroopers were arguably the toughest in a tough army.

Warlord Games Fallschirmjäger miniatures are ideally suited for battles in North West Europe and can also be used in actions on the Russian Front.

While painting the limited Edition Miniature I used the rest colours in my paint pot to also finish the Vickers Team. The base was done using miliput for the sandbags.

Weekend was quite busy with playing Diablo 3 (yes, it is addictive). So only one more Figure finished which is the british paratrooper carrying a wounded.
